Are you a cyclist with tech skills? This is a chance to take your professional skills and apply them to something else that you are passionate about. Your primary responsibility will be enhancing and developing the software that interfaces with our Power Tap power meters, trainers, indoor cycles and other fitness equipment. We are located in Madison, WI, one of the most bike-friendly places on the planet.

Saris Cycling Group is looking for a skilled programmer that can help take our software to the next level. The Software Developer position requires a broad knowledge of development technologies and of computing in general. Responsibilities include everything from system administration to desktop development to hardware peripheral communication. Candidates should be self-motivating with a strong background in leadership and a minimum if 5 years experience (ideally) in application development. Time management is key and the ideal candidate should be able to effectively distribute his or her time across all of the following responsibilities.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Work closely with members of the Saris Engineering team to define, develop and maintain key pieces of internal software. Examples include test fixtures, production utilities and communication protocols for new and existing hardware.
2. Work with Marketing and IT departments to develop new and existing systems that provide data across functional business units.
3. Maintain the current development infrastructure.
4. Work with Product Managers and development teams to provide the necessary functionality in a publicly-offered software package. A successful developer will be self-motivating with an acute attention to detail and a strong grasp on the bigger picture.
5. Work with firmware developers to debug new and existing products. Excelling in this role means being comfortable troubleshooting in environments with limited information.

REQUIRED SKILLS

1. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of ANSI C programming and experience interfacing with hardware peripherals.
2. Experience with languages targeting the Microsoft .NET 2.0 framework, SQL (specifically MS-SQL Server and MS Access), and web services are a must.
3. The candidate for this role must have experience with a *nix and/or other POSIX-compatible Operating System and must be comfortable administering such platforms. Experience with development tools including Subversion, Apache, MySQL, Rails and Trac/Redmine are key.
4. Must have the ability think critically and consider many solutions to a particular problem, and the experience to choose the appropriate solution.
5. The ideal candidate will be able to identify resource limitations and manage external resources as necessary to meet business objects. Experience with Agile Methods, Subversion, Java desktop development, and JNI are critical.
6. Candidates should be comfortable using tools like hex editors and terminal emulators. Basic knowledge of machine architecture and byte endianess a plus.

Our software will be used by cyclists, competitive athletes, and people just trying to get into better physical condition. If you are passionate about cycling, performance, exercise, fitness etc. That passion will give you perspective on the form, function and feel of our software programs. You will be a developer and a user of the company’s software. Knowledge of and interest in cycling and/or training for physical competition would prove helpful in understanding the intended results from many of the applications developed.
